Bunbury Curran Creek flows into the Georges River. The Georges River is located south and south-west from the Sydney central business district, with the mouth of the river being at Botany Bay.
Indigenous Heritage
Prior to the arrival of Europeans, Georges River was formerly known as Tucoerah (or Toggerai / Tuggerah) River by the traditional custodians of the area. To the south of Tocoerah are the traditional lands of the Dharawal people. The Dharug/Eora people are the traditional custodians of the land on its northern banks.
Recreation
There are many recreational activities to enjoy along the Georges River. There are lots of places to fish, swim, cycle, stroll, bush walk, or enjoy boating or bird watching along the Georges River.
Fish
The Georges River is a popular area for recreational fishing. Species present in the river include bass, bream, whiting, yellowtail, jewfish and flathead. The river is also host to a number of commercial oyster farms.
