Cattai Creek begins in a light industrial area in Castle Hill and flows into Cattai National Park.

Friends of Fred Caterson Reserve

A remnant bushland oasis located at the headwaters of Cattai Creek in Castle Hill, Fred Caterson Reserve is home to several community sporting groups and many plant and animal species, some at risk of extinction.

Friends of Fred Caterson Reserve are a volunteer working group of Cattai Hills Environment Network (CHEN) dedicated to protecting and enhancing the biodiversity of the reserve.

Indigenous Heritage

Cattai Creek, also known as Dyarubbin, has a rich indigenous history. The First Nations peoples of the area, including the Dharug and Darkinjung, were the custodians of the region for around 50,000 years. Archaeological sites in the area include evidence of silcrete stone tool manufacturing and ochre and charcoal drawings. The Aboriginal people identified Cattai Creek as a significant place, and it is part of the river’s Darug and Darkinjung history, culture, and languag

Restoration

Known as the Cattai Creek Corridor stretching from Middleton Avenue through to Carrington Road and onto Showground Road in Castle Hill, this under-utilised space will be transformed by The Hills Shire Council into a beautiful and enjoyable open space for the community with new pathways, seating and connections for pedestrians and cyclists.

The project will also see valuable ecological areas protected and the Cattai Creekline rehabilitated. It will also compliment the redevelopment of the Castle Hill Showground and provide residents with another option to access the Showground Metro Station.

Recreation

Cattai National Park protects significant historic sites, but also offers loads of activities, like camping, canoeing, fishing, barbecues, bike riding and bird watching.
