NSW Fire and Rescue Report:
Fourteen FRNSW fire engines and five RFS fire engines are onsite. A total of 90 firefighters are fighting the fire. Approximately 250 residents are evacuated and a 500 metre exclusion zone will remain in place until fire fully extinguished. The factory contains chemicals so monitoring of smoke and water run off for contamination is taking place with Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water NSW and Sutherland local council officers assisting.
NSW Environmental Trust Report:
A one-off grant was approved by the Trust in June 2011. The Trust approved a grant of $1,155,433 to the Office of Environment and Heritage under the Restoration and Rehabilitation Major Grants Program. The grant was to clean up contaminated water from a fire at Integra Water Treatment Solutions at Kurnell. The fire resulted in large volumes of contaminated water, which was at risk of being discharged into Marton Park Wetland, a sensitive site that is connected to the Ramsar-listed Towra Point Nature Reserve. It is expected that the funds will be refunded once legal action is resolved. See Report
Flyover Video, September 2024
This video captured the state of the facility at one point in time. We did not have authorized access to the facility, the plans or the operating procedures.
We have made the following assumptions:
1. floor grates in outdoor areas drain to stormwater
2. labelled new drums contain product
3. if segregation systems between incompatible chemicals or spill containment systems are not visible, they are not installed
If you are an owner or an operator and we have got this wrong, please contact us and we will endeavor to correct any errors we have made.
